Current Custodian: Michael Toscani
The Brass Key is an unidentified artifact first documented during the investigation into Requiem Estate. Although its origin and purpose remain unknown, the key appears to be directly connected to the ancient locking mechanism associated with the Estate and the mysteries surrounding it.
The artifact first appeared during one of Lorenza Toscani’s visions, in which she witnessed Edmund Whitmore standing before a massive black limestone door carved with symbols unlike any known language. Set within the stone itself was an ancient lock. Holding the brass key in his hand, Whitmore spoke a warning before inserting the key into the mechanism.
“The key is not meant to be turned.”
As the key entered the lock, Lorenza felt an overwhelming force drive a single name into her mind.
Requiem Estate.
Whitmore slowly turned the key as the corridor around him distorted and darkness consumed the vision. Before everything disappeared, he spoke one final warning.
“Do not turn it again.”
When the vision ended, Lorenza concluded that what she had witnessed was not a memory, but a warning.
The key later came into Michael Toscani’s possession under unexplained circumstances. Upon awakening from a nightmare, he discovered the artifact resting in the palm of his hand. The metal looked old enough to belong to another century, its surface dulled by age while the edges had been worn smooth by countless hands. Before he had fully looked at it, Michael felt an unnatural cold radiating from the object, immediately realizing it was no remnant of a dream but a tangible artifact that had somehow crossed into reality.
Although modest in size, the key displays remarkable craftsmanship. It appears to have been forged from solid brass centuries ago, its proportions elegant yet unusually deliberate. The bow is intricately worked with decorative filigree, while the shaft and bit possess a design unlike that of any conventional key, suggesting it was created for a mechanism unlike any ordinary lock. Neither Michael nor his companions understand how the key came into his possession, what it unlocks, or why it appeared at that moment. Whether the key was created to unlock something, seal something away, or fulfill an entirely different purpose has yet to be revealed.
